چکیده

The aim of the paper was to test the possibility of using object based image analyses of Landsat satellite data for worldwide assessment of sea coast changes over time. The coastline in this project was defined as the seaward margin of dunes or land vegetation. The proposed method uses Red and IRed channels of Landsat images for segmentation. The rule based classification of segmented objects is supported by DEM and wind fetch data modeled in GIS. The coastline extraction from polygons classified as sedimentary beaches are done by designed GIS tool. The results are used to discuss the usefulness of proposed method and to present some coastline changes in the southern Baltic along the polish coast.

Coastline Change Measurement and Generating Risk Map for the Coast Using Geographic Information System

Information on the pattern, rhythm and long-term trend of shoreline dynamics is vital to managing the coast, especially in mapping risk areas and in establishing the width of construction setback lines. Unfortunately, such data are often missing or where present of doubtful quality. In this paper, we share our experience in mapping coastline change in Singapore, using geographic information sys...

Object Oriented and Multi - Scale Image Analysis : Strengths , Weaknesses , Opportunities and Threats - A Review

Problem Statement: In many cases it would be helpful to include already existing data with the GIS for interpretation of remote sensing data. Object Based Image Analysis (OBIA) is a technology for image analysis which addresses exactly those problems hampering a successful bridging of Remote Sensing and GIS. In order to provide potential strategies to meet the proposed objective, a tentative SW...

Long term coastal erosion and shoreline positions of Sri Lanka

Coastal zone of Sri Lanka is a key to sustainable development of the country. The erosion of country’s coastal zone has been identified as a long standing problem. Therefore, coastal sediment dynamics around the country has to be identified to develop an appropriate coastal zone management plan. Remote sensing and GIS techniques can be used for quantitative and qualitative analyses of coastal p...

Lidarscapes and Obia

Object based image analysis (OBIA) may has evolved as a new paradigm in remote sensing and image processing. In this paper, we study some fundamental issues arising from the creation, handling, storage, and use of geographic information in an OBIA environment with a particular focus on LiDAR data. The research starts with a critical analysis of the multiplicity of scales in regard to ‘across-sc...

Object-based spatial classification of forest vegetation with IKONOS imagery

Object-based image analysis (OBIA) is employed to classify forest types, including deciduous, evergreen and mixed forests, in a U.S. National Park unit using very high spatial resolution (VHR) IKONOS satellite imagery. This research investigates the effect of scale on segmentation quality and object-based forest type classification. Average local variance and spatial autocorrelation analyses ar...
